Brake Calipers

Post by ICFM » Thu Apr 21, 2005 7:45 am

The beastie has just passed its MOT :hopping: but an advise note was that the rear n/s brake caliper was knackered. Are these difficult/expensive to replace?

£59 from GSF - you need to send them your old caliper first though I think.

Front ones are only £34 :(

In my experience, no - hey are either missing or rusted to buggery (thus probably leak).

You might be lucky though :)

You can actually get calipers rebuilt, but I dont know what sort of cost that is or where to get it done...

I don't know about prices, this is the preferred refurber of the german darkside car owners.

Now that's what I call a useful post  I'll be getting someone else to do them now. Saved me a lot of grief, and not a little swearing. Cheers Bramdeman.

If you go for this yourself get a large breaker bar or an impact driver to get the caliper nuts off - They're held on with loc-tite (or 11+ years of rust and bastardry) and done up tighter than anythin else I've ever had to take off the car :)

Depends whats up with the caliper -if it's just seals are starting to go or the guide-pins are knackered - You can get a kit from volvo to re-build it yourself (guide pins for my front calliper where bout £15, and kit of new seals and bits was something affordable)

But then - if you don't want to mess with bodging brakes - I wouldn't blame you. EBC do a rebuilt rear calliper for £130 - spensive - but they have plenty in stock (last time I called)
