Creaking sound from front suspension.

Took the car down to Ashbourne in Derbyshire for the Shrove football match.
Had fantastic time. Completely clear run on the Peaks... was wishing I had a turbo! ;)

Anyway, before reaching the Peaks there was a strange creaking noise, which made me pull over and check around the wheels. Everything seemed ok, so continued and it went away. Same thing happened on the way back. Seems to happened when the car has been on the motorway for a fair distance, although, I never noticed it on the motorway.

The sound was very similar to the sound effect on films when a ship is rolling in the sea!

I know my wheels need balancing (that's somewhere on the ever growing list!!!) but would this cause the creaking too?

im guessing it will be the link rods that connect your anti-roll bar to the front struts.

cost about £15 each from a 3rd party company.

I'd second that guess. My '89ES creaked really badly when I bought it, more noticably when it was parked in the sun (possibly heat related, and that's why you noticed it after a long journey?). Replacing them was easy and the noise went away. Can you make it creak by pushing down on the suspension?

Ben.

Yeah, doesn't do it at the moment, but when it was doing it, I parked up and turned the wheels and that caused it creak.
I'll have a look into the suggestion. Thanks!
