Hi all
Skip is 53000 miles but it is very likely the shocks are still the original ones from 1993, would you change them just to be sure? Cannot see any leak but unless I can drive another 480 I do find him a bit wallowy?

I was thinking on buying a spring compressor. However, I don't like the idea of buying shocks and they end up being the wrong ones (Ebay stylee)

Consider changing also a few other bits along with the shocks absorbers.
The most important would be the strut mount, even more so if you are putting sporty gas shock absorbers that will make the old dry ones work even harder.
also, don't forget to buy new strut mount bearing and a new dust covers / bumpstop for the front shocks
another easy fix are the drop links connecting the anti-roll bar (front and back) and the stabilizer rod in the back.
and if you have a press you can consider refreshing also the rest of the bushings (you or your mechanic should evaluate the state of the old ones to consider if it's necessary )

and check the state of the pan that supports the bottom end of the spring . . .
I could see daylight through mine after attacked it with a chipping hammer

but only if you are sure no fresh air on the spring bottom pan
and I reckon £100 is actually quite reasonable price for a few hours work . . . .

Yeah I know. Took pics of the front as I was doing the work, no rust anywhere, the disk back plates are dirty but no rust, I can only "assume" that the front will be similar
