Hey all

I've noticed a "clunking" noise when going into reverse with steering wheel round to the right.
I mm familiar with a few of the issues on the 480....
All is well when going forwards.
It's a 1994 2.0 GT model with 55k miles on. Has been looked after
Any ideas?
Cheers Tom

Does your gear stick wiggle a lot if you go on and off the throttle? Is there a dent in the middle of the firewall above the gearbox? (that is where the clunking noise comes from)
Probably the hydraulic engine mount is broken.

Otherwise the CV joint may be knackered.

No gearstick wobble, stays almost mm where it is. No debt in the fire panel.
Doesn't have the juddering when accelerating either.
Any other ideas guys?

If your cv joint is knacked it should make a knocking noise at full lock going forwards .

Would check all engine mounts especially the rear one sometimes they can go and not give obviuos signs via the bear stick although they usually do.

Search on here and there are numerous threads on failed rear engine mounts.

If its excessive engine movement you would expect the engine to throw a bit .burt check the engine movement damper it may be goosed.

Or if its not the engine then...
Would try and establish is it at the front or the back. failing that then its ...

jack up the rear and check a springs in case one is snapped
spin the rear wheels with the handbrake off (chock front wheels safety !!! ) forward and back
wiggle all the parts and see if the bushings are loose .

front wheels jack up each side and then spin wheels check springs and all bushes .
No joy then use spring compressors (hate them ) to release the tension and check all parts for movement.

best of luck

Cheers Jim,

Will check all that through. Going to be something all the list.
Did you have any luck with the parts are needed?
