cracking stearing sounds

Post by rpb » Wed Mar 17, 2004 9:48 am

My 480 es - 1986 - is producing suddenly (last night) cracking sounds. A move of the stearingwheel is causing the sound and driving on a straight line ( no stearing movements ) gives the same cracking sound. At first I looked at the shockabsorver but that isn't the problem. I think the sound is coming from or out the socket placed in the middle of the stearing bar to the left wheel. This morning the cracking sound wasn't there but appeared by my arrival at work. Does anyone got a clue.

I'm glad to tell that the problem is solved. An employer of a Volvo-garage knew what the problem was - dry stabilator. After several "grease-injections" the cracking sound was over. A happy result, cause I was worrying!
