I was under the impression (was told by someone else on here a while ago) that the power steering on all the 1.7 480s (Turbo and non-Turbo) whined. It was something to do with the size (diameter) of the pipes used for the hydraulic fluid (does that sound right?). I was also told that the 2.0 litres didn't whine because Volvo fitted larger pipes to them, and can confirm that my 2.0 doesn't whine, and my 1.7 does.

R you using the VOLVO fluid ? :wall:
Volvo No 1161529 its dear but it works,
Whinning is a common problem but like most 480 problems.
I.E gearbox/p.steering - use the correct fluid & all will be silent :boom:

Yeah i used the volvo stuff, worked like a charm. I just filled it until it looked full. Just ad a little and try it. If it still makes noise add some more...

Sometimes life can be simpel

Hope it works for you too

That's not too bad. I'll let everyone know how it gets on. I'm sure I have the noisiest power steering in the world. Sounds like a family of seals..
