Hi could anyone t4ell me why my steering whines and pulls to the left all the time?

pulling to the left can be bad tracking, or worn bearings, worn shock, or... you get the picture - this whine you mention - is it definately from the steering, or could it be the wheel? Does it whine if you drive at some speed then depress the clutch (so you're coasting) and steer then? You might find you have a worn steering rack, which could also account for the pull as well as the whine.

Thank you for rapid replies. Had the tracking checked first it's fine. suspension and handling feels good so think shocks OK, which I suppose this means it is likely to be the most expensive problem! I boughtit as a one lady owner 40,000 miler so will be surprised if steering is wrong. however, it is the pump that whines in fact when stationary it nearly stalls engine when turning!

I would check the brakes first before replacing any part.
Don't want to give you a bad feeling, the car might be pulling to the left due a previous accident... so yuo could have your car checked for misalignment of the wheels, this can be done at good car-reapirsshop.
