Post by bigdickbuster » Tue Apr 27, 2010 1:55 am

One of the elements of my steering system have major loose. I decided to fix it. But how to make it? Anyone have experience with this? I have spare part.

It's element 25 on the picture

It is just a nut and bolt tat each end . this part of the steering column can move up and down in the direction of the steering wheel so dont be alarmed by this . Can you be more precise in explaining exactly what you mean by loose?

Ah I understand now Adrian :)

Easy to check kneel on ground lean into the driver footwell and look at the steering rod the bit between the 2 number 25 bolts.
Grab hold of the steering rod in one hand and hold it still with the other hand try and move the steering wheel . This will show you if there is play in the upper part of the steering .

Now repeat for the little length of column that enters thedrivers footwell is there any movement there .

If the whole length of the column is firm then it must be the steering rack that is worn OR possibly the fluid needs topped up .

I raised the car on the jack. Steering column was replaced three months ago and haven't loose.

Everything except steering rod is OK

Thank you from the mountain = Thanks in advance - literally translation of meaning in Polish-English

an even sillier thought when you secured the steering wheel to the column you should make sure that the coloumn is fully engaged into the wheel .

Pull column up and then bolt down tight so that the top of the column protrudes above the level of the nut.
