Anti Roll bar

Post by Jimmy » Mon Sep 08, 2008 10:25 am

One of my MOT advisories was:

Nearside rear anti-roll bar has play in a ball joint

Any idea if this is easily repairable and whether a novice could tackle it?

Cheers

Sounds like the roll bar drop links, about £12 each and you might as well do both sides. Pretty easy job, couple of 17mm spanners is all that is needed. If you do a search on here there may even be a guide or some photos etc.

Half the price over here:

Left

Right

Postage is a little extra though, so always worth thinking of other things you might need too, rear boot struts, filters, etc etc.

Cheers rgreenhalf, but I am after the rear ones. I take it the parts I referred to arent the correct ones then?

Re: Anti Roll bar - FRONT - DROP LINKS

Post by Golly Gosh » Sun Aug 01, 2010 7:52 pm

Good evening Rocket and Jimmy. Very interested in your exchanges as I need to renew my FRONT nearside drop link. Its 'groaning.' For life lubricant finished? Cost from the suggested link incl. p.&p. is £15.83 for one. I have not got the 'good news' from Volvo parts yet! A couple of Q's. Are these spares reliable and really up to Volvo's spec? Assume I too should renew both? All that is needed is a 17mm spanner? I've been advise to ALSO get new nuts?

You'll need 2 17mm spanners, one open end spanner to lock the backside of the nut. Best is to replace both at the same time, but that's up to you. It''s an easy job, you just have to remove the wheel. Try here. to get them at a good price&quality. New locking nuts are included.

Hello again iroll480. Drop links have arrived. I note that whilst on the RHS one the 'fittings' - nut and bolt - are at right angles to the link/bar those on the LHS are angled outwards? One more than the other? Assume this is correct or is it? They seem a rigid fit not flexible? They do have the correct part numbers. Manufactures Scan Tech Sweden altho at least one was made in Taiwan. :?

I can't remember if L&R differ. But it's easy to find out by comparing them with the ones on the car.

new they are quite stiff. i thought the same with new lower ball joints, when they are bolted on they will move easily.just a tight fit. they are not handed, same both sides.
