Is this the fatal blow WONKY front wheel
Yeah son comes round a tight downhill corner with an adverse camber in the rain (what else) at in the dark when a a bloody cat charges out in front of him. So the big softee opts against roadkill swerves across the the road hits the raised kerb at close to 30 mph noitces steering a bit wonky but drives the 1000 yards home .
Goes out to discover the OSF wheel rammed back to 1cm clearance from the wheel arch but rubs badly when the wheel turned . On top of that the wheel has is no longer vertical the bottom half has been knocked into the car the top protrudes and when the wheel turns it looks as if the wheel is wobbling.
Work and the pouring rain has stopped me having a close look at the car but I fear that it is just not salvageable.
any thoughts. I had been thinking at least track rod end gone but if whole steering is misaligned and the supporting frame badly damaged its not worth fixing. Any body had a similar experience ?
When does bad become terminal scrap?

Danthe480man did this! Search for his posts! He had to get a new wishbone and something to do with the steering rack too.

The front wishbones do collapse if you hit them. The rack could also be damaged as mentioned.
If its just the bone, thats not an enormous job. The rack'd be a pita though.
The suspension strut will be fine, the subframe should be too, unless it was a real whack.
I speak from that experience. ( I didn't do it! )
The strut and driveshaft were fine, the wishbone was bent double, the subframe was mildly damaged, and the rack was destroyed.

having done the same at different speeds in different condition the results has always been the same.
Wishbone
subframe
hub
have all fucked up. The wishbone pushes into the subframe and bends the wishbone mounts on the subframe. Not 100% sure why the hub goes but it seems to everytime.
On the plus side the rack trackrods and struts have all been fine. Only on one occasion has the wheel been damaged beyond repair.
The question you asked being is it worth fixing?
The answer starts with another question. Is the car worth fixing to you?
I on the other hand hasalways repaired 480 from this state including the HOMDV pool car which came in this state.

Lee your sharp as a tack on this one.
The wishbone appears to be ok but the subframe is bent and twisted , would need to be replaced as to the steering rack etc I couldnt say. So the problem came down to this have 4 480s the little 93 S which has the same colour as the 95 turbo - was going to scrap the S and use it to sort out the turbo. As son and daughter have their own 480s now the question was whether it justifies throwing money into the sons turbo only to possibly find it has further problems after spending weekends rolling around under the car.
Solution use the duffed turbo as a spares car give son the grey turbo and upgrade the little s using the stuff from the duffed turbo. Works as the insurance swop will be like for like. this way I am not out additional cash. shame really but I am kind of pushed into this decision.

Dilithium typically occurs as an extremely hard crystalline mineral which occurs naturally on some planets. When placed in a high-frequency electromagnetic field, magnetic eddies are induced in its structure which keep charged particles away from the crystal lattice. This prevents it from reacting with antimatter when so energized, because the antimatter atoms never actually touch it. Therefore, it is used to contain and regulate the annihilation reaction of matter and antimatter in a starship's warp core, which otherwise would explode from the uncontrolled annihilation reaction. Though low-quality artificial crystals can be grown or replicated, they are limited in the power of the reaction they can regulate without fragmenting, and are therefore largely unsuitable for warp drive applications. Due to the need for natural dilithium crystals for interstellar travel, deposits of this material are a highly contested resource, and as such dilithium crystals have led to more interstellar conflict than all other reasons combined.....bloody good at solving all your Volvo 480 knackered subframe problems too......allegedly
