They rubbed on the front chassis legs on full lock, and the inside of the rear arches if the boot was full and passengers were in the rear.

I ran 45 profile tyres though, they'd have been better with 40s.

This should hopefully settle the arguements problems.

Specs- I had a very stiff 480 turbo. This was achieved by lowering the car 40mm on pi springs with yellow koni set to hard. New bushes, bearing and joints all round including the 2 most inportant ones. Those being the suspension top mount and wishbone bushes. The car was then take to toyota where it was put on to the most up to date laser 4 wheel tracking system on the market. Everything was finely tune. (i was with the car. There is a very small adjustment of the camber available. New dunlop sp2000 were fitted at the toyota garage before tracking. I drove it like this for 1 week covering just under 500miles before returning to the toyota dealer for any further tuning which was needed. In addition to the above i had a strut brace fitted accross the front. I got approx 12k from the front tyres with no adverse wear. Not even from the power steering.

Handling- Nothing to touch it not even a motorbike. This would out handle just about anything on the road. You could feel every bump dip and cure in the road. this had its benifits on the track but on the streets it was quite bouncy. Changing lanes was fast easy and sharp. Through corner the car was flat with little in the way of bodyroll. very little in the way of warning when the limit is reached and a slow reaction at this stage equals disaster

Specs- 480ES with front stut brace and standard suspension.

Handling- This stiffen up the front of the vehicle allowing me to take corner that little faster but no overall change in the way the 480 spoke to me. Still loads of bodyroll. Loads of warning even for the most inexperience of drivers for when you are approaching the limits of the cars handling.

Specs- 480 Turbo standard everything

Handling- lots of bodyroll but grips the road quite ok. Not much in the way of communication between you and the road. But lots of warning when you are approaching the limit.

Specs 480 turbo Standard everything but Michlin Pilots exalto PE2 tyres.

Handling - Still as previous but the grip in endless

I have said this in many a thread and it is entirly up to you if you wish to take me up on the advice of someone who has been driving 480's for 7 years in many states and spec is IF YOU CHANGE THE FRONT SHOCK OR SPRINGS CHANGE THE TOP MOUNTS. THEY ARE CHEAP ENOUNGH EVEN FROM THE MAIN DEALER. These will help to hold the spring in place as the older top mount tend not to hold the newrer lower spring properly and they can come out of their seating position.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Hello!

My friend have lowering springs (-40) from Volvo 460. He bought the car in Germany with this set. I don't know which company is a producer of this springs.

He is crazy about big rims, so he decide to dismantle this springs.

Question is: Will they fit to my ES, and can I use them with factory shock absorbers? (I mean about settings - Whether will they be not so soft)

The springs will fit, but the standard shocks can't handle the lowering for long. You'll need Koni's or Bilsteins in combination with lowering springs.

still sky high in front. At least this way u can still get on the sidewalk with a front spoiler, but looks like shhhh.

a 60/40 would fit much better i think.

Yellow Koni''s are brilliant roadhandling wise, but a bit too harsh for road use IMHO. Even in the're softest setting. You can adjust them, but only when they are removed from the car.
An alternative are the red koni's, also adjustable like the yellows. My preffered choose for sporty roaduse.
This site in Holland is the best deal I can find on the internet. Front set €317 incl. rear set €142 incl.

The yellows are €348 incl for a front set and €165incl. for the rear set.

ps; copy and paste the url, as they are too long!

i use red coni at the front with standard springs. i think they go from normal setting to 50% uprated so you have pleanty of choice. still cant believe i got them for £35 new. i dont think any more is needed on the road, its easy to get carried away and stiffen them too much but it will only end up taking them off again to readjust which gets tedious. luckily i compared them to the old ones by hand and made them slightly stiffer which did the trick on standard springs.make sure you get them even on both sides.

I read that red KONI should be used with standard springs. So it preclude lowering springs :?

Yellow are much harder, my poor carbody can not withstand it :x
