off topic - 440 suspension

Post by 440turbo » Wed May 16, 2007 8:23 pm

Hello,

I know this is a bit off topic but, there arnt any good 440 forums!
I have a 89' 440 turbo and the suspension is rubbish.

does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to replace all the usual bits associated with improving the suspension on a 120k (miles) car?

what suspension brand do you use?

Many Thanks

Uh oh!

You dont want to start that one!

I've replaced all my shocks with KYB excel-g gas, lesjofors -30 springs, chaned almost all of my suspension bushes, replaced a track rod end, a balljoint, had it tracked a couple of times, currently replacing the front wheel bearings and snapped cv joint... Should be very good very soon!

Anyway, the 4 shocks and springs cost about £270.

Good luck!

jep, change the original springs to shorter ans stiffer ones and get new gas schocks, makes the car way better. At least way better then my 2005 Ford Fiesta.

Probably, remember the chassis on a brand new Fiesta will be much stiffer than ours.

Id go for Koni Yellow shocks if you can afford £400+

Yep your bushes are well worth looking at mate, also the suspension top mounts at the front.

A full set of bushes from Volvo for the rear end,on a 480,cost me £130 last year,Braydon Motor Company do some of them cheaper though.

What tyres are u running too??

I prefer the 440T in some ways to my beastie. You sit up at the screen rather than lie down and mellow out!!!

Just thought Id give ya some support!

fiesta has a realy strange bodyroll and bump stear, the spring shock combo is good on them. But still. All the time I drive it, it feels distant from the road and to easy and tamed. Good car for my mom, but not for me :) I love my 480. @ 110 km/h managed to dodge a car that made a U turn on a highway to the wrong lane. Just in front of me. So a lot of tire screeming and smoke + sideways action, but kept it under controll. Was trembling from adrenalin for about an hour after that. I think the fiesta would have flipped with that kind of action.
