Eh up guy's...
Ok. My drivers suspension has jus started creaking. Litterally halfway throught the day Saturday, it just started. With the bonnet open, if i push the car up and down you can hear at the top mount. Groomus had a listen aswell and too, thinks it's the top mount.
I'm happy that this is what it is-unless anybody else has any further diagnosis? It's only noticeable through low speeds i.e. between 0 and 25mph. When you start hitting more than that it doesn't seem to make a sound.
Also, a further 2 q's:
1) Does anybody know of an aftermarket one as Groom has told me that Volvo want £50 for one?
2) What exactly does a topmount do? Not 'cos i'm thinking of doing away with it, just because i really don't know what it's for. If i had to make a guess, i'd say it's like a gasket-it just sits between the strut and the bodywork. Or does it do more?
Answers on a postcard to....
Cheers!

Its the part that the top of the spring's end (or tail!!) uses as a stopper. This is so it doesnt move around.
Also,it has a bearing in the centre of it.So,when you turn the steering, the spring stays located.Without this part, the drive would be like a cavemans car and the spring would gowjjjj its way through the wing!
Y'know, like when you D&D back from the pub every night mate

Aaahhhh.
Cheers Groomus. It's started to make a squeaky noise now, so despite the fact i have acquired a fresh new MOT, it's going to lay low in the drive until pay day next friday! Not risking it!
