Tracking-when does it end!!!!!!!!???

Post by catgroom » Wed Nov 01, 2006 2:05 pm

Hi everyone!

I have never ever before known a car that requires the tracking to be set so often!

Im getting mine done 4-5 times a year.OK I live in Lincs where some roads arent that great but mainly I use A15/A16/A47 which are tops!

I wanted to know which component exactly gives way under use leading the tracking back out again. This is too flippin expensive!

It looses track when bolts aren't secured right. It can als loose track when parts get bend.
Most parts are checked at the MOT. So make sure everything thing is tied up properly, it shouldn't loose track while driving.

The only part I can think of that could explain, are the nuts on the steeringrods.
If these aren't thighted up right, it could loose track. Due to vibration the rods could turn slightly.

The top mounts of the shocks in the front tend to go bad. The rubber part in the mount tends to rip and then you’ve got to much movement in the top op the shocks causing the tracking to change slightly.

This could be a problem when you drive in an area with a lot of speedbumps, or if you have a lot of BHP to put strain on the top mounts.

If you drive with standard wheel and tire sizes tracking isnt’t as much of a problem as it is with 17”wheels.

Replacing front wishbones requires tracking. Then as they wear in your tracking goes out.

I still it goes out even when my bones have bedded in and my top mounts have are virtually new.Must be the nuts then on the track rods, fucking annoying though!

Im sure Ive had other cars with this set up which havent required so much attention, grr!
