I think it's standard across the range. My wife's '89 Turbo certainly had it. Anyway, you can tell if you've got it; if you haven't, you'll have huge arm muscles

That's something that they improved on with the 2-litre. My 1.7-litre has much heavier steering than my 2-litre. I seem to remember someone (Jamo?) saying that the 2-litre has bigger power steering pipes, which also means it doesn't make the whining sound that the 1.7-litre does. This may be why it's lighter.

I actually prefer driving the 1.7-litre because the heavy steering makes it feel more sporty (in my oppinion). I guess it's a personal preference thing though....

if you pull the steering wheel to one side.... then turn the ignition on. you should be able to feel the power steering helping you

thats how i was told to check it for my driving test

Turning the ignition on will not help the steering, the power steering pump must be working, this is driven by the engine.

Eh, that doesn't work on a bunch of older cars as the power steering pump is powered of the aux belt drive which only turns when the engine is running

Yes all 480's have power steering as standard.

Kirsty, you are correct, I think what you mean is turn the ignition on and start the engine, it is a simple test to tell if the power steering is working as it will start to pull. I think you will find that this is so with any car with power steering however old or young it is.

Regards

Chris
