Which Front Pads?

Post by Macaroon » Mon Apr 17, 2006 1:24 pm

Got an advisory for new front pads when I failed my MOT recently - so, assuming I get the exhaust fixed and the handbrake working properly I will need to replace them soon.

But which pads do I choose?

Everywhere I look I see different options, different pads for different years or various pads for the same year and I'm confused. GSF seem to offer just one kind. Is there a way to tell without removing the pads?

I have a late '91 480 ES 1.7i Paris Special Edition with solid disks and a B18EP engine + catalyser / Lamda Sond. Already having problems finding the right exhaust for the year / engine / cat combination and this Volvo non-standardisation is driving me mad.

Here is an example of the confusion. BuyPartsBuy list loads for the 1.7 turbo but none for the 1.7i. Does the Turbo use different pads to the injection and the 2.0l models? Does it depend on the make of the calipers and if so how do I know which make I have?

Here is a table of volvo pads and shoes for reference (apologies for the size):

Any advice appreciated.

Sheba: '91 ES Paris Special. Love that leather, baby. Scrapped and used as a spares car.

Cheers steve. Doing it by chassis number sure makes life simpler.

Now if only it were that simple to work out which exhaust I need...

Thanks - but Sheba (the 1.7 Paris) has now been declared SORN and will not be getting any new parts! Might take you up on that another time, tho.

Cheers
