ABS UNIT VALVE OVERHAUL KIT

Post by catgroom » Tue Jun 28, 2005 8:05 pm

I was recently informed by a forum member that you can overhaul the valves in the ABS unit.I was pleased,as a new unit is pushing 1200 quid from Volvo now!

So,can anyone give me the part no. Volvo list so I can avoid any bullshit from em when I call them?Using the Tardis, naturally!! :D

Oooh,I will be overhauling both of my units so will have one spare soon for sale.....

Oh,and one other thing-I would expect the unexpected when the ABS light comes on-the brakes lock up after a good few miles of the ABS still working!!!!!!

I wonder if the braking reverts to that of a normal system when it packs up too,or whether there is more dodgy stuff going on under that bonnet due to the ABS malfunctioning..... :?

If the ABS malfunctions, signified by the ABS light coming on, you will have normal non-ABS brakes, so they'll be just as good as those in a non-ABS car. Still fail the MOT though.
If however the fluid warning lamp comes on - you may not even have that, and should stop!

Dunno about them numbers, but here is a guy who does it for some 35 quids. He did it for numerous cars of the local Volvo club, including my 850 T5. It's been working since then without a glitch...

@Fargo Which country are you in? I would be interested in having my units overhauled......

@Chris Would it fail the MOT on the rolling road brake tester???If its just the light being on on the dash,I'd just take the bulb out-just like Ive done for the SRS,ummm, and all of the other bulbs actually!!!!!!!!! Anyone want a spare dash bulb then??!!!!!!!

If the lamp doesn't come on when ignition is switched on initially, it will also fail.
Especially since one look under the bonnet will tell the tester the car has ABS.

Hi,

I'm in Hungary.
I can't tell you much about it right now because I'm just off to visit my parents, but I'll be back by Saturday latest, so that I can tell you the details...

depends where you get it tested. my dads 440T has an abs fault, every year at mot time, he just takes the bulb out and it passes.

you'd have to be pretty interested to check that the car had ABS when its not that obvious, i dont think many places have the time/inclination to check.

or just wire it up to the oil pressure light?
light comes on, then goes out after a couple of secs, no bother!

then plan what to buy with the £1099 youve just saved!!
