Ive got the infocentre, got the alloys, got the front spoiler, now my next challenge is to fit ABS...

How big of a job is it, and what bits will i need to get the job done?
Was ABS availible as an accessory from Volvo?

Any ideas anyone?

I would stay well away..... You would need.....

both driveshafts with ABS sensor teeth on them, sensor teeth for the rear wheel hubs, 4x ABS sensors, the rear trailing arms have special brackets on them to fit the wiring to, the ABS unit... the big bar that goes from left to right in the engine bay....
Lots of copper brake hose/fittings and a flaring tool
The ECU and ABS wiring loom, which if the earlier type, involves removing all the passenger side interior.

You can use your original discs and pads and calipers if you so wish, but i would be inclined to upgrade to the vented ones if you were doing that much work anyway.

Think theres porbably more stuff i've missed.

I considered this when I did the turbo conversion, what with having a complete ABS setup on the donor car, but its a lot of work!

If you are going to do that then go for the later type ABS, it's got it's own loom, and apart from the rear wheel sensors everything is in the engine bay.

You would need....

The loom

The wheel sensors and hubs (all 4), and ABS type driveshafts

Some brake line to complete the pipework (as it's slightly diffenerent)

Late type ABS master cyl

Quite a lot of time.

Well good luck to you my friend - it looks like a big job - but as Richard siad, if you use a MkIV ABS unit - much simpler job.
The major issue, all of you seem to be forgetting is most important element of the ABS system...

The ABS warning light on the dash!!! :)

Also - if you're donor ABS unit has 6 valves coming off it, you have TRACS - this will require even more new pipe work!

think i might just jib it off... seems too much work for me.

unless anyone wants to do it for me for a nominal fee?

I dont like ABS. I like normal brakes. I have driven a lot of both types of cars and i like to feel what the wheels are doing. Not that odd ABS judder.

Good luck with the fit - looks hectic!.

The later type ABS is much better for feel than the early type. The early type ABS brakes felt just like a spring to me, as in no feedback at all.

The late type being 4 wheel ABS will match the best you can do without ABS, but without having to do all the hard work :)

Nice one,I wouldn't bother. The ABS system is a pain mate.Mine has gone today and its the most expensive bit thats fooked too!!!!!

I have a spare-but only cos thats also fooked!!!!

U can get a valve replacement kit from Volvo though which Rich splendidly made me aware of recently!

So,I'll have 2 kits please Mr.Volvo and 1 unit will be refurbed and available for sale soon, not for just under 1200 quid either!!!!!!!
