Raining outside you say? Perfect time to find out then isn't it? I think they pretty much all have ABS apart from early ones. There should be a computer in the boot, left hand side cubby hole.

Yes - It changed for the '94 models onwards. It's located on the passeger left-hand side of the engine bay. It's got a fairly chunky plug for the electrics going into it, and quite a few thin metal pipes for the hydraulics.

Heh, Well, Ritchie is the proud owner of my old one!
So give him a warm welcome!

As for ABS, I think it was an option on the 92 cars, and unfortunately (or fortunately) your one doesn't have it.

If you've got ABS, the ABS icon will light up on your dash for about 3 seconds when you start the car. At the same time the brake pedal will start vibrating. I don't know if that's the case with all models; with mine, it is.

Some time ago I've read something about an "ABS extension" (don't know how to call it) which stops wheelspins when driving less than 25 miles per hour, but it said only one specific type of ABS computer has got that. Does anyone know anything about that?

that would be the tracs traction control you are talking about. i think only cars with the last type of ABS had it as an option. i think dragon has it so he will be able to tell you more about it! :D

I have the Tracs with the ABS on my Dec 1994 Turbo Auto.

Its only on 1995 models yes,its an ATE Part No. 10.047...........

Can find out if you need me too.Ive changed the ABS as the TRACS system failed due to too much wheelspin on sheet ice!I have the old unit so if you need the ATE Part number I can post it yes.

If you don't know if you have abs or not i'd say you don't generally. - As mine fires up all the time when i'm driving, its the crap sheffield roads and too much speed/late braking.

Surely if you have ABS there would be a warning light on the instrument cluster ?

But as JT says if your not sure you probably dont have it.

It may not just be the '95 model 480's that have it, as I've got TRACS on my '94 model 2-litre, (registered in Oct, '93).

Although, thinking about it, I've a suspicion that in my service history, the previous owner had the ABS computer replaced because it went faulty, so it may not have had it originally.

I have tracs, mine is early 94, and has not had a new brake ecu.

Having said that, the tracs didn't used to work, just started working recently (when i lowered the car actually)

Best way to see is to try and spin wheels from stop, if the car goes "gerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" like a buzzer noise, thats it.

My tracs has stopped working now....

Very strange. Maybe I have worn it out?
