quick q about abs

Post by richj » Fri May 01, 2009 10:46 am

I've been driving my 480T for over a year now. I think today I used ABS for the first time. I'm slightly concerned. I was going about 20mph, a pigeon decided to sit in the road in front of me. Because I was going slowly, and it happened really fast I just stomped down hard on the brake. I felt a sort of pulse through my foot, like dot dot dot in morse code. I also heard a weird noise. Is this what ABS is like or should I be concerned?

sounds normal to me. Noise would be the pump and judder is the piston moving fast on the pads.

Yes, normal. One of the problems with ABS is that if you've never experienced it before, the sound & pulsing makes it feel as if something's wrong & the natural impulse is to come off the brake, which defeats the system. If you've never experienced it, it's worth finding an off-road site where you can try it, then it won't come as a surprise when you use it for real.
