If he hasn't already tried, make sure you use an impact style socket with the same amount of internal sides as the head, normally black in colour. Do not use a socket with a star configuration inside. This made all the difference for me. and i've heard others have had good results also.

Also, heat it up with a blow torch until glowing red before using the impact socket on a long extension.

Other sockets will strip the sides off and then you'll have to grind it away.

Some people swear by gator grip sockets.

That head looks too far gone to get a grip on to me .

I had the same problem on one of my rear brakes.

So after much cursing I ground the head off.The assembly came away and I was able to screw the thread remains out.

What a pita that bolt is. Stopping me changing the disc now. I used 6 point on still slipped.

The Sealey extractor was PANTS and broke :-( Guess it's time to get a real good tool or replace the whole lot!
Hmmm :-( Otherwise the last 2 days went well :-)

I have some extractor sockets....made by westfalia...like a sharp left handed thread with 5-6 starts.

Never tried it.

I've had problems with these before...at the time i didn't have the sockets...so i ground it down to perfectly fit the imperial size next inline. - lots of heat...and it cracked.

I gone for http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0387034579

I think that's the only way to remove without sourcing another hub ass. I really don't want to pull it off the hub for some bleeding bolt lol.

I did try and weld a nut on BUT you can't weld around the edge because the socket will never fit on and tacking it on from inside the spare nut only made tack on a small part of the rusted bolt. I just moved onto the next job rather then waste more time on the impossible :-) Keep you all updated!

Me and Chris removed a bolt I had chewed up equally, if not worse, using a tight Britool 6 sided socket and a large breaker bar. I applied force against the socket to keep it on the bolt, and with chris undid it.

if you have an assistant, give it a go. The sideways force of your assistant should stop the socket slipping off!
