Replacing Discs & Pads

Post by hamish » Wed Aug 13, 2008 1:19 pm

Hi,

I've been quoted about £440 for replacing all the disks and pads on my 480 2.0 GT (1994). This seems rather expensive to me, I've had a look online and I think I could buy the pads and discs for about £120 all in (Mintex from Partsforvolvos). Does anyone know if the price quoted is normal due to the labour costs?

Thanks for your help,

Hamish

get the parts and do it yourself, Brakes are one of the easyest jobs to do on a car. Just, get the 4 disks and pads. Lift the car, remove the wheel, remove the caliber. Unscrew the the screw that holds the disk to the hub. Remove the disk, but a new one on. Screw in the retainer screw. Remove the old pads from the caliber. push the caliber silinder in, But in new pads, But the caliber back. But oon the wheel and that is it. You don't need to remove the brake pipes and bleed the brakes. If everything opens up nice its a max 2 hour job. 30 minuts per wheel. I would do the job for you for some beers if i only lived near you.

Try elsewhere.

Many thanks for your help. I think I'll either have a bash at doing them myself or see if I can find a garage to fit them for me. Don't suppose anyone knows of a good garage in the Edinburgh area, or Perth area?

Thanks,

Hamish

Or you could get yourself a Haynes manual and then you'd never have to use a grease-monkey again  ...ish!

If you can get a trade card go to Halfords-I changed my discs and pads for around £70, but I did all the work myself-so only cost me £70 :D

Looking at the discs online there seems to be two options for the rear discs, with or without hubs. Any idea which how I can tell which ones are correct for my car?
