ABS inlet/outlet valves

Post by bkf_uk » Tue Apr 22, 2008 11:12 pm

Ok so ive made a right balls up! got a new (good used) ABS controler for my 440, only to find my 440 has bloody tracs on it! nuts new kit wont fit!

So how do i strip down my old unit, so i can reapir the buggerd solinods/transistors that are stopping my abs from working! can the abs ecu from a non tracs car (part no. ending in 71) be used in a tracs unit? i think my ecu is playing up but the the valve block might be buggerd!

Fault codes are :-

4-1-3
4-1-4
4-2-1
4-2-2

Suggests a fault on 2 wheels!

4-1-1 Left side front wheel inlet valve: open circuit or short-circuit
4-1-2 Left front return valve: open circuit or short-circuit
4-1-3 Right side front wheel inlet valve: open circuit or short-circuit
4-1-4 Right front return valve: open circuit or short-circuit
4-1-5 Rear valve: open circuit or short-circuit
4-2-1 Rear wheel circuit inlet valve: open circuit or short-circuit
4-2-2 Rear wheel circuit return valve: open circuit or short-circuit
4-2-3 Traction Control System (TRACS) valve: open circuit or short-circuit
4-2-4 Pressure switch for TRACS: faulty or short-circuit
4-4-1 Control Module (CM) faulty
4-4-2 Pump pressure low
4-4-3 Pump motor/relay: electrical or mechanical fault
4-4-4 No power supply to valves in hydraulic unit

Cancel all fault codes and then take it for a quick spin. I had 10 codes accumulating but after cancelation droppd to 2 was the front os sensor that was dead. that was 4 1 3 and 4 1 4

Almost certain that there is nothing wrong with your ABS unit but your ABS sensor or sensors are dead.

Ok well can confirm it is sensors that are shot! front left senosor is snapped!

Tried to remove the sensor but only the plasitic parts came off, the metal holder is still wedged in the hub and refuses to be removed! anyone one got an idea how to get this out?

Also where can i obtain new sensors? (with out having to go to main stealer!)

Hi Bryan

The sensors are a complete pain to remove only ever managed to get one out complete after pulling various ones apart in a breakers. I removed the old one by hammering a screw driver into it lots of wd40 and levered it out. It might be easier to buy a complete hub. Good Luck

I had a quick go at trying to remove the dead one on my car, with the front wheel still on and it was impossible. I don't think even with the wheel off it'll be much better, maybe loosen off the strut and swing the hub/wishbone down a bit.

Ah crud, new hubs are like rocking horse poo round here, theres only one braeker with a 400 series in this area (for 50 miles around) and it isnt an abs one, looks like im just going to have to get friendly with my BFH again. Reminds me of my suzuki sj413 days lol!

As for sensors anywhere recomended or should i expect a wallet beating from main dealer? Some bargain car this is turning out to be! wont be getting another 400 series in a hurry!

Roll on the day i can afford an 850 T5R!
