My garage is saying that the Master Cylinder is possibly broken, does someone have any ideas on how much something like this would cost me?

Cheers

Hello, have a look at eurocarparts dot com they have some listed but the price goes from £43 for the valve kit to £128 for the full cylinder.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone have any clue about how long this job would take to do? They're saying they need to actually take the original one off to get the numbers model make off it so they can order the correct one.

With some help I was able to replace the master cylinder on my old toyota carrina with seemingly little effort, is it a bit more of a full on job with the Volvo?

there are quite a few possible abs/brake system combinations in a 480 so they're right in saying its important to get the right one. they probably dont need to take it off to find the correct replacement tho. I removed one from a spares car for my (early type) when the garage said mine needed replacing for my last MOT. wasn't a hugey difficult to remove, perhaps 30 minutes or so, i didn't do the fitting, but i can't see it being overly complicated. brakes will need bled afterwards but that shouldn't be a big deal for a professional garage.

sometimes i've known of a car in a scrapyard not just 480's but bmw's etc and most part departments if you give them both reg numbers will tell you if the donor parts are compatible with your car over the phone, sometimes a real time and money saver...
