Rear discs & pads...

Post by esta » Wed Jan 09, 2008 4:20 pm

Hi all,

I am starting to get the bits together i need to get my GT back on teh road. The first thing that needs changing are the rear brakes.

I need disks and pads,, 2.0l, ABS

I need as cheap as possible, cos i have so much to do, when i have the money i can replace with some expensive ones, but in the mean time, does anyone have any recommendations on where i can get cheap (but good-i.e., ask yourself...would u use them? lol  ) brake disks and pads?

I was thinking eBay as shops have quoted rediculous prices.

Also i know one of the Saabs have the same brake disks...which one? And will it save me any more money?

Thanks for your time guys ;)

Make sure you buy without hub rear discs. Yours is a late model 480.

hia, i have already tried GSF, they were not as cheap as i had hoped. I thought they would be a good bet, but they were no cheaper than anywhere else for exhaust parts (i know someone who does them for half the price) and they said they would have to be shipped in. So far i have found GSF only really good for newer cars.

But thanks anyways ;)

Buypartsby it is then. They also have a good delphi PDF for identifying what pads you have!

Or be cheeky and get a Halfords trade card, then the pads are £8 a set, not sure about the discs but they'd be around the tenner mark from them.

Esta, yup Halfords trade card is ace, then can order anything you need not just what they stock, they have access to CAS in Leamington to get anything they don't stock in.

Oh and the RRP on the rear disc pads for the 480 are only £13.99 before discount.

O my god!! That is VERY pleasing!! I will be checking out their quotes tomo, looks like it could be cheaper than any "cheap e-store" :D

Only trouble is you have to put up some useless Halfords muppets (disclaimer not all of them mind)! you just have to find the right people in the branches to help you out, I had one person in the Banbury Halfords the other day tell me to go to Frenco for my parts, (local parts supplier) basically he was being too lazy to do his job properly. Its a shame but the one person who knew her job inside out in that store has moved to the Northampton branch Grr.

I managed to get a Halfords Card today, not from Leam Store (Quite Rude there) but Coventry store (much better).

Picked up a rear wiper today for £2.27 instead of £8.49 = 72/4% Saving woop woop

Halfords make me laugh, the employees are sooo demeaning!

When i went to apply for my Halfords card, i went up to the helpdesk and said "hi, i am wondering how to go about the application for the trade card" (or something along those lines!!)

And the guy just looked me up and down and said..."You have to work in the motor trade for one of them luv" OK, so i was wearing a skirt, but just cos i like cars and work in the motor trade doesnt mean im exempt from wearing a skirt!!!!

Still, i had great pleasure in showing him my payslip and telling him i worked at the HQ (well, almost...) NOT just the local dealership!

I love it when a gal can show a guy up

And when i was looking at car radios, and i asked the guy if fitting was included in the price (cos if it was was i was planning on wangling some money off since im not dumb n stereos arent hard to fit) To which the guy turned around and said "No, but i am sure if you ask a male friend nicely he could fit it for you!" What are you saying? That only guys can fit steroes????

Awesome! How did you manage to blag that? Might give my Halfords a try!
Showed them some old Motorfactor invoices, told them Id buy parts from there if they were more competitive (to which the reply was we guarantee to beat any price etc etc), just wore them down basically without being aggogrant or rude. At the end of the day, its more business for them, albeit at a much lower profit margin!

Couldnt believe the wipers trade price, crazy!
