Volvo 480 Club Europe

277x25mm discs can be found on Toyota Celica, but they are 5 lug. So you need to rebore them.

Besides the total height of this disc is 46.2 mm.
Where we (480) needs 40mm. Or your wheels stick 6mm more outwards (hmmm)

I dont know but I guess with these calipers could go with VW corrado G60 discs. These are 280x22mm with an overall height of 39.2mm. (yes, your original wheels will go 0.8mm inside)

PS:
Look for BMW E24 (6-series) calipers. The early ones (76-82) are 4-pots and fit on 280x22mm discs (size of 633csi). They weigh 5,2kg.

Any news on progress with the project? I'll happily donate anything needed however having an ES I'm not sure that I have the right components for all you turbo guys!

I'd be very interested in a kit! Its a lot to spend, but not compared to other companies. It would have to be after x-mas now before I could cough anything up as im skint from being on the sick with a broken hand.
But im very interested. I tow a fairly heavy unbraked trailer quite often, so they will be a godsend. I'd go for the full kit too. Hoses and possibly red pads?? Not too well up on what the green/red is all about.
If he can hang on till jan 2008 then put me on your list.

i respect you for tying to do this as a group buy mate to help people out to get a cheaper price. Your main problem is going to get people to cough up.

I had already delevoped a big brake kit, stainless exhaust, spoilers, ignition leads (magancore) and many other things for the 480 but getting taker is hard. Its just not worth the hassle to get anyone to part with more than £50 for there 480.

I'm just speaking for myself here but put my name on the list for Jan 08' as I've spent hundreds replacing discs pads and ('wallet cowers in back pocket! ') calipers with no difference made whatsoever to performance.

I suppose I could part finance it by selling my current nearly new calipers to one of the fucking OAP's on here who think 480 brakes are 'adequate'.

push a standard 480 turbo with vented discs / fluid and standard pads and it becomes crap after a while.

Is possible to get them made individually, theres no need for a group buy but theres a discount to be had if we buy a few kits.

Ive not heard from the dude producing them for a while so i'll go and PM him!

In the meantime my MR2's brakes are shagged, the discs were warped like pringles, so i fitted these instead:

300mmx 32mm discs and 4 piston calipers from an ST205 celica GT4, the best brakes on any toyota fit straight on the Mk1, they are awesome brakes on the GT4 and now with 500kg less weight to stop they are simple incredible!!

This is them under 16in wheels the pics give no indication on how huge they are!!

I see little problems in fitting ST205 brakes on the Volvo 480.
You would need wheels with a smaller offset since the brakedisc is a little wider (46,2mm?) then the orginal 480 brakes (40mm), but if you have a adaptor bracket and the ST205 caliper then it can fit the upright.
You need wheels anyway since 300mm discs wont fit in 15" wheels.

Why don't you all buy vented discbrakes from Brembo? Not very expensive and very strong braking.. !

At their website the have these kits... but are there any 480/440/460 models with a wider brakeshoe? (they call it remschoen in Dutch.. uhm the thing with the brakecilnders in it..?)

Just 18, have to learn alot of the English "car" language

Yep, you're right!

The brake caliper, are there any 400serie models with a wider caliper? Vented brakes or something? Than will fit the Brembo kit perfectly I think..?

The Volvo 400-series has two different front brake calipers.
One for non vented discs and one for vented discs.

Only the turbo has since 1991 vented front brakes. The other 480's have non vented brakes.

I believe that the calipers and discs are interchangable (please correct me if Im wrong).
The calipers are from ATE and Girling and are used on BMW E30 (3-series)

The Brembo is an option, but quite expensive. The cheapest source is too use Seat Ibiza Cupra R parts which have a Brembo calipers. In an other thread about big brakes this has been covered.

For most (if not all) aftermarket calipers you need a adaptor between the upright (dutch fusee) since the mounting holes are different and the caliper must have the right position to the brake discs.

@dragon: Nice kit!

I have the brembo disks on my 480's and find that if you drive like me (which folks on here will confirm) somewhat enthusicaly late braking then these will last no time what so ever. I have had them glowing and the pads on fire. I find that they worp to easily.

The kit that Dragon showed is the kit developed by the HOMDV.

I will be doing only a couple of these. Dragon and myself as we are the only ones to stump up the cash.

The biggest problem is that people just don't want to shell out like £400-500 on a set of brakes when their car cost less than the brakes.

But for example my pool car cost £50 but i have just spent £260 on 4 tyres which is more than the car is worth/cost. But to me safety and the safety of my passenger is priceless. One day (no names) you will be going to fast around a corner hit the brakes and at that point you will think i wish i had better brakes but it will be too late as you go off road through a wall.
