ABS Problem
All of a sudden my ABS is acting up.
Whein i put in the key and turn it half way the abs light in the dash goes on and turns off after a few seconds indicating it is ok.
when i then turn on the engine it turns on again and off again after a few seconds.
when i then start moving it turns on again and does not turn off.
i slap on the brakes to test if the abs is still working but it is not.
what is wrong ?
i read somewhere that it could be from some sensors, but where are the sensors located and how do i clean them ?
Thanks

Is this the old type ABS? If so, check the connection to your ECU and that it is secure.

might be a simple statement, but check that the earth 'pin' in the engine bay isnt loose and touching metal...on and off like....turning the abs on and off.
like i said, simple statement, but it could be.

in the engine bay, by the right hand side (looking from the front of the car) theres the box for the diagnostics? somewhere around that theres a little black plastic pin about an inch long? with a metal tip....if you touch the tip to the body it will cycle the abs on/off....i only had it on the silver turbo, and i didnt have that long, so cant exactly remember where....one of the otehrs will though im sure?
anyone?

The sensors are easy to find at the end of their wires.
You can clean the driveshaft rings with a wire brush.
To clean sensors you dont have to unscrew them.I find spraying them with brake cleaner or any alcohol based liquid is best.
Then, take a cotton bud or a piece of rag and floss them, really!
This should sort out the problem.
I had a 1992 with this problem. It turned out to be that the brake fluid was low. Now,you can fill brake fluid much higher than Max mark on the reservoir.Something I picked up from another forum member.
Good Luck!

cleaned the sensors and filled the brake fluid reservoir to the brim. still not working.
i cant find the plastic pin mentioned.
it's becoming dangerous as when im driving the ABS goes on and off occasionally while im braking and when it does that i have no brakes for s second or two.
Is there some kind of diagonistics test i can run for the ABS computer ?
