Sticking front brakes...

Hi,

I've got this wierd problem. Every once in a while when I do a hard braking the front brakes don't disengage as they should. Never happens to the rear brakes. I've changed and renovated both calipers but the problem consists. Has anyone else had the same problem? I'm going to fit new hoses and if that doesn't help renovate the master cylinder. It's getting quite annoying....

Cheers,

Lars

Have you changed the caliper brackets and slide pins too?
If not the first thing to do would be to take the slide pins out, wire wool all the much and rut off, and grease them with high temp greaase. Of course its possible that the holes they slide into are corroded, in which case it would be easiest to change the bracket.
I had this, discovered when one pad had .5mm of lining, the others about 5.....

Yep, I'm afraid I did change the brackets. Off course there is little play in the sliding pins but it's only marginally. I'd suppose all play is bad but quite confident that this isn't the source of the problem, cause it's the exact same problem with the new calipers. Has anyone experinces from this that's caused by other things?

Thanks for the reply,

Lars

I was going to say, if it is both sides I'd be very surprised if it was anything to do with the calipers... unfortunately, I don't know the braking system well enough... very weird tho... please post the solution when you find it!

I surely will! Why I thought it was the calipers was because it was just one wheel at first at the MOT. Now both have the problem, probably have been both all the time. I can't do anything else than to try and renovate the master cylinder and go from there I think.

Lets see what happens,

Just a thought, but have you tried blasting the brake lines out with compressed air? Somtimes bits of rubber can get into the system, and act to stop the fluid returning as it should.

Bit of a long shot, but worth a try before doing anything else.

Also check the brake servo is returning fully. If it doesn't then it will hold the brakes on (but would hold all 4 on a bit).

Well, Ive checked the brake lines, but not the servo yet. I'll try that as soon as I get the time. But since it's just the front brakes sticking I've never actually given it much thought, maybe I have to now.
