Clutch Talk

Post by martinholmesuk » Thu Apr 20, 2006 4:04 am

OK, VDD said http://www.techniclutch.com/ do the upgraded clutches but I don't see any Volvo one unless I was ment to look at Renault but what one for a K reg 480t gearbox?

Am I correct in thinking a 93 clutch is 215mm?

What's this about Rich using a clio clutch and another type thing (word I forget lol) to take the power!
also he found other bearings to fit?

I don't claim to know anything about manuals so I hope you lot do!

M59 is the turbo gearbox right? I been doing some google and found this
First of all the '98 R's were available with FWD with the AT and also manual using an LSD equiped M59 gearbox.
These cars, S70 and V70 manual, came with the B5234T4 engine. The AT's however used the B5234T3 engine which basically makes it a T5 and because of this is hard to trace as an R also.
The VIN indicates or better said suggests this type of car being a T5.

If it is a manual R VADIS should list the VIN as being a B5234T4 with M59 gearbox (FWD).
Interior is identical to the V70R's, deep blue dials and all.
And
M56 has a couple variants, including the M56L and M56H (there are also other variants). The L was the original M56 and has a different 1st gear from the rest of the series, as well as 3 possible final drives. The H was made to rectify the 1st gear 'issue' of the L (the 1-2 shift was kind of wierd b/c of gearing issues). M56 is open-diff.
The M59 is what was on the MY 96-97 manual 850R and has an LSD.

Both the M56 and M59 are 5-speed.

M66 is a 6-speed gearbox introduced on the newer R series.

Now is the M59 a 480 box and is a M59 the same as a M59 in a 850?

I too noticed that Techniclutch haven't updated their website to include the Volvo clutches.

The m59 in the 850 has different ratios and I doubt if the gearboxhousing is the same.
The m59 of the 480 Turbo is a gearbox based on Renault/Getrag design. I believe the 850 box is Volvo own design.
