New clutch - happy days!

Post by owen080808 » Thu Apr 13, 2006 11:32 am

Just got my car back from volvomax in glasgow with a new clutch fitted,

took them a little longer than usual as the first clutch they put in lasted 5 minutes before shearing a rivet! so effectively they had to do a clutch change twice! and it still only cost me £200.00

thoroughly recomend volvomax for anyone close enough to consider them (0141 774 5238),

dealt with dougie, good guy, great garage all round must say thanks to rohan for pointing me in their direction - cheers dude!

so happy to have a nice light action non slipping clutch :D - full boost in 5th mmm

:hopping:

I did wonder about this, my thoughts were that the friction material involved is pobably quite similar to brake pads and as such would need a period of time to 'bed in' i guess this is what you mean by get brush?

the guy at the garage didn't seem to think so, just said that as it settles in the cable may need a little adjustement to keep it sweet so i must admit i havent been too cautious so far... do you think its better to work it in by doing lots of long gentle starts, riding the clutch or simply try and avoid hill starts etc?

quite interested to see peoples opinions

cheers

Damn right it couldn't! Dougie seems a nice guy too. :)
BTW Owen i forgot to say when i was down at Volvomax about a week ago, i saw your red 480 outside. Nice very clean car!!

Then a few days later it was cool walking in and seeing 2 480's (yours and mine) both up on the lifts.....

I think Dougie was a bit surprised when i told him that i'd told "the guy who owns the red one" to bring it to him- not to mention "the guy with the black ES who needed his starter changing" too- hope i'm in his good books ;) mind you it's true in both cases!

Yeah club discount always welcome, but as you say it was bloody cheap as is i might have felt a bit cheeky asking, but then if you don't ask you don't get!

He did mention that 'some guy called rohan' notcied my car when it was in, compliments always welcome, i had been at the autoglym over the weekend if im truthful tho. i felt a bit bad for the poor guys, i think they may hate my car now, chaging the clutch once, then it gives up first try and they have to do it all again!

I was asking and he says he still see's a reasonable amount of 480's coming in and out, the other customer in when i was there had just sold a 2litre.
im just glad to have found a cheap friendly place that know's their stuff for when i cant be arsed to do the big jobs

edit: ps is that some kind of citroen DS remake concept in your avatar? looks cool!

a cx gti - 2.5 turbo now thats motoring! and you gotta love the hydrophumatics! and here i was thinking there was a lot to go wrong with a 480

quite fond of citroens myself, seems to be something that runs in my family... throughout my childhood we've had AX, BX, ZX, Xsara and the mighty 2cv, a DS or CX will always be the dream tho, could go on about them all day so i suppose i should stop hijacking the thread!

erm yes, once again, hats off to volvomax/hospital!
