Hi all, just got a 2.0 480 which is great except that about 250 miles into my ownership it gives a harsh wine (and feedback through steering wheel) above 35mph but only 3 - 10 degrees left or right of centre. Very odd, I've checked the gearbox oil and its full and looks good. There doesn't appear to be any leaks from the driveshfts and the power steering fluid is topped up and there doesn't seem to be any change in feeling from the steering. The car tracks fine and brakes excellently with no veering left or right and as I found out the other day the ABS works great!
Does anyone have any ideas? I plan to replace the brake discs and pads as a matter of course as its a new car to me - the previous owner mentioned that the left front wheel bearing had been replaced but he thought the garage had over-torqued it as it occasionall pulls ever so slightly left. I'm new to this front wheel drive business (capris are much easier!) so any help would be appreciated. I've put this in transmission as I can't feel any problem with the steering etc but suspect that it might be to do with the driveshafts?

Capri's
Hi, while waiting for a new shell to reshell my Brooklands 280 a number of years ago (6+) I built myself a cross between a 280 and a Zakspeed RS2800. I've been using it on and off for the last 6 years so it's getting a bit tired and now needs a new engine and exhaust (the only things I didn't replace!) so am currently putting together a stage 1 2.8i with EFI and single TT200 turbo to give it that reality punch down the road a Zakspeed should! As with all my capri copies I've never tried to pass them off as the real thing hence my nickname of Zackspeed280!
It does have a Zakspeed Turbo spoiler fitted but not at the time of this pic, the inside is totally Zakspeed and possibly the most comfortable interior ever fitted to a Capri!

Recaros.... and my 480 noise is worse?
Steady yourself!!! Point of correction needed though - they are actually made by Scheel (I think that's the right spelling!) and while UK Capri's in the main had Recaros which are very very good (especially the full leather in my Brooklands) the German Zakspeed RS2800 seats in my copy are far far superior in comfort and 'bucketness!!!!' I estimate that there are maybe 4 capris in the UK with these orginal seats - a number have modified Escort RS1600i ones but they don't have the original rear seats with them! Note the FordRS badges! Right, sad spotter moment over.
The noise on my 480 is now almost constant, its like a growl from about 20mph up. Wheel bearings anyone? Thing is the steering and tracking are both excellent where as all my other cars (all rwd though) loose their ability as the front wheel bearings go. (that capri needs new front wheel bearings every 8-9K miles due to the extra width!)
