Both manual and automatic transmission are discussed here, including the clutch!

Creaky clutch

Post by dean36014 » Fri Feb 17, 2006 5:49 pm

Changed the clutch cable on the 480 today, but it hasn't cured my problems.
When the car is cold the clutch is fine, nice and light, no slip. after about 15 minutes of driving the pedal goes "jerky", making pulling away in first a bit intersting. I thought it was the usual seizing up cable, but its not. Further investigation, reveals a creaky noise, when the clutch is depressed, coming from the bellhousing. It only does this when it has warmed up, other than this the clutch works fine, its not heavy, and doesn't slip, no gear selection problems. Anyone got any ideas, could it anything to do with the clutch actuating arm?
Cheers in advance.
Dean

Thrust bearing, or maybe just the ball type bit the actuator bears on. squirt some WD40 down there....it'll make the clutch slip for a minute or two, but will soon burn off.

For gods sake don't do anything involving grease or copper slip though!!

the bearing, usually with the bonnet up and the engine running you can hear it rattle slightly when the pedal is not pressed, then goes away when it is.
get it sorted when it gets noisier and its deffo the problem.

It's not the bearing, its dead silent with the engine running. it just creaks when you press the clutch :( . I gave it a good dose of wd40 in the bellhousing at the weekend. The clutch seems smoother and lighter now, and hasn't creaked in the last 20 miles.
