Clutch and subframe

Post by momv » Mon Jan 30, 2006 9:56 am

:cryhard:

I am afraid that my 1988 480 es may be terminally ill!

The clutch is on its way out and I keep adjusting the cable; but it needs a new cable, clutch and subframe - for which I have had an estimate of £1200! :badmood:

Any ideas of how I can save my beloved 480 would be much appreciated.

how much is the subframe? would a good condition 2nd hand be no good?

Subframe

Post by momv » Tue Feb 07, 2006 9:25 am

The quote was

£900 for subframe

£600 for new clutch and clutch cable

But if had them done together £1200

It was from a main dealer and the clutch quote was so expensive because it was nearly a days labour!

A second hand one would be fine as long as it would last a few years.

i'd say a days labour too, now these cars are gettin older there's bound to be a few rusty nuts. i charge 250ish for a clutch and cable change.

never changed a 480 subframe but i'm guessing up to 2 days depending on how rusted up it is so again 200 tops. a subframe can only be 100ish 2nd hand from another member who's breaking a car?
