Clutch change

Post by Damien » Sun Oct 23, 2005 11:19 am

Hi all! My clutch is going out, and i need to change it. Does anyone know if it's alot of work to change it? Me and a friend changed the clutch on his toyota supra, and it was a pretty rough job. Looking at the 480's clutch, it can't be too much work? I mean, it looks like it could be very small, and a easy job to do, but i may be wrong.
So if anyone has a guide\pictures of a clutch-change, it would be much appreciated.

its not a small job by any standard. but I've never done a supra so can't really compare. But the 480 turbo is a lot of work. I prefer to lift the whole engine out. But its possible to do it with just dropping the subframe and the gearbox.

If you've never done it before it might be a good idea to get a haynes manual, the whole procedure is in there step by step.

Hmm, done this sort of work many times. We've tried it with the engine in place and its a b*tch to say the least. Getting the clutch aligned and wiggling the box back on is a nightmare
Its a bit of a job, but taking the engine out is the easiest way to do a good job.
You will need - gearbox oil, down pipe gasket, drive shaft roll pins and lot of patience! Good luck ;) Edd
