hi all
have a strange noise on taking up drive in 1st to 3rd gears. can best describe it as a grating noise that only lasts for a very short time (a second or so) when taking up drive in first 3 gears - may happen with 4th and 5th but cant hear anything.
clutch cable may need replacing as pedal doesnt travel too smoothly (never has though) just wondering whether if it was clutch cable it could cause this type of noise - thinking maybe when releasing the clutch pedal it is not releasing fully and thus thats what the grating type noise is.
any ideas??

Re: grating noise
It could be a few things, the clutch release bearing possibly. Or a wheel bearing, or maybe even a CV joint.darren975 wrote:hi all

The wheel bearing should be easy to check, just lift the wheel of the ground and see if there is any movement. Also spin the wheel and check for noise. If you hear anything or it feels rough to turn the wheel, then that should narrow the problem down.
It's possible it's the gearbox if you find the wheel / driveshafts to be ok. Check the oil level first, and also drain a little to see what colour it is.
If you report your findings here then I am sure someone can help.
Hope that helps
Richard
