Auto gearbox fluid cooler

Both manual and automatic transmission are discussed here, including the clutch!

Auto gearbox fluid cooler

Post by jamesy12345 » Mon Nov 19, 2012 5:58 am

Hello all,

Has anyone ever fitted a transmission fluid cooler to their car? Mines the ZF 4HP14 box...presumably all 480 autos have this...and even though this box is also fitted to many different cars I could not seem to find a ready made cooler for it

One idea I had was just to install some kind of small radiator (e.g. oil cooler type) in the water feed line just prior to the heat exchanger on the gearbox. The car has an ECU from Robou so I was going to put one somewhere anyway....

Any advice on a universal type of heat exchanger for ATF or coolant would be much appreciated!

Bump!

Anyway, I guess not. I see the water hose that runs from the oil filter (cooler?) to the auto gearbox heat exchanger, probably this is as good as I will get as the hose is just behind the radiator fan....

that's the fella. Originally I was wondering if I could fit a larger/more effective version of this somehow, but probably a good compromise would be to fit a heat exchanger in one of those hoses..............as suggested by Robou although his intent was better cooling for engine oil I think.

Thanks MK
