Gear Oil

Post by MatBat » Mon Oct 13, 2003 10:18 pm

Not really an in depth question, however.
Any recomendations on a gear oil to use. Also what is the specification of gear oil none of the auto shops seem to know, and most only seem to stock 80/90W. Any help will be appreciated.

Had same bother when trying to get oil for my box, no one-listed it. Ended up buying off volvo, who just had part number and oil came in unmarked can so could have been anything. Wrong oil can be seriously bad for box, so probably worth paying that bit more and getting of volvo.

Mine ended up costing about 35 quid, which is nothing in comparison to cost of new box!!

Thanks, turbotwat. :D

Where is the drain plug for the gearbox?
Was it a straight foward task?

Cheers

Hi turbotwat
If you have had volvo oil you should have had a can of 3,4 liters with volvo on it and the partnumber on the can.

At least I had this allready twice from my volvodealer in the way I described.

At least some one who backs up my story of not beeing able to buy the right gearboxoil by a neutral autopartshop.

Damn right, that is exactly what I got, the exact amount in tin with partnumber and nothing else, saves having to measure/even think about it!! (as long as you don't spill any!!).
