Volvo 480 Club Europe

Have been having a few prob's getting the girl into reverse, 1st & 2nd lately. Gets worse when the motor's hot. Have to really stand on the clutch to get reverse and slowly ease the stick. Not quite so persnickety getting into 1st, but clunks a bit. Need oil top up in the gearbox, maybe? TIA. Or something worse? ( Now up to 3000 earthquake aftershocks.)

without the engine running how easy is it to select the gears.

first thoughts gear oil / linkage bush worn at end of selector rod (from gear stick at engine end).

but not knowledgeable on this one I am afraid just going by memory from earlier posts .

There is a thread which covers this topic almost exactly , I am certain in the past year but I cant remember it off hand to post up the thread address just now as going out to work its 8.30 here and its still well below minus -10

When stationary and cold ( in garage) easy to shift the stick into any gear.

Maybe clutch need some regulation.

Have had the tech guy top up the gearbox oil which was well down, leaking from the left hand gearbox seal.Could someone over there kindly advise what the part number is please? Or better yet, get one and post to me? Will remit through PayPal.

year
engine size
manual or auto
is it an M60 or M59 gearbox (should have a metal tag with this stamped on it)

are you you sure it is the left hand gearbox seal. to avoid any confusion over right and left hand could you indicate unambigiously which side you need as mistakes are irreversible in this case.

I can then get a price and part number for you with postage then you can decide what to do either order it at your end or get it posted via myself.

It's a 1990, Manual, 1799cc ( 17 something?) Can't check the gearbox number as it's back now and off the hoist.
The chappie says it's def the left side axle seal, looks to be neoprene, sits in the gearbox, about 50/70mm diameter.
I can take it back tomorrow and hoist to get the tag if you need?

The aluminium id tag is located on top of the gearbox left/under the airfilter box, so no need to hoist it to identify it.
