Noisy transmission

Post by CAA » Tue Jun 16, 2009 8:39 pm

I have a M55-373M gearbox and I am experiencing increasing noises from the front left part of the car.
In the beginning it was present only when I turned to the right - I changed the left wheelbearing but it did not cure the problem. I also exchanged driveshaft and brake disc without any progress.
The noise (as a worn wheel bearing or a noisy set of gear wheels:RRRRRrrrr) is getting worse and is now present even when driving straight aheas. It is stil completely gone if i turn to the left, even just a slight flick at the steering wheel!
The noise is not affected by using the clutch, and is present in all gears.
I have a spare gearbox which I can use, but I would like very much to know what is causing the annoying sound, and to perhaps check my exchange box prior to mounting it in the car.
The oillevel is OK and all are OK with no tendency to be jumping out of gears.
