Turbo clutch 215mm What will it take power wise?

Both manual and automatic transmission are discussed here, including the clutch!

Turbo clutch 215mm What will it take power wise?

Post by ben_p » Tue Apr 07, 2009 11:09 am

Hi btw lol.

I have a clio 2.0 172 F4R, the car is now running around 240 hp and 180lbft. I'm struggling with clutch now though! I can fit a helix or a Al-con for around £350

But i have been told the 440 clutch (later 215mm) will fit with some gentle filing! they are £130 for the sachs item from GFS, But is it worth it? when do the standard clutchs on turbos start failing?

Cheers

Ben

Nice engine :D

Chiptuned turbos produce around 170hp with 190 lbft and they seems to be ok with the stock clutch.

A standard clutch from a 480 turbo will start to slip after any heavy boost e.g. when fitted with rich mod so around 170bhp i would either recommend a performance 'sach' clutch which i picked up for £190 i run around 180 bhp with it and runs absolutly fine.

clutch

It seems that stock clutch 200 mm is stronger and better then later stock 215 mm.
I also recommend a reinforced 215 mm clutch or an other stronger clutch that will fit.
You could take a look at SRE clutches, but a clutch set will set you back at least 600 Euro's.

The 200 mm (when new) can cope with chipping up to 170 crank hp's, but that is it.
The 215 mm stock clutch (when new) can also cope with 170 crank hp's but will not last as long as the 200 mm one.

uprate your pressure plate by 50% then it should hold 230bhp ish with no problems , when i get mine done by "FRICTION SERVICES of BRISTOL" they take a week and its £60 also racing compound resurfacing of the clutch plate and making it 1mm thicker costs only £32 and takes 24hrs with this combo holding 250BHP aint a problem.
140mph for £175 just test the brakes
