Bearbox Breather

Post by eEm » Thu Oct 30, 2008 4:39 pm

Sat in traffic in the M1 'carpark' tuther night I noticed a strong smell of gearbox oil! Checked it out this morning to find that I've lost about half a litre through the gearbox breather or up the sides of it at least.

The only thing I've done , driving-wise differently is taken her over 100mph for about 10minutes just before I hit the carpark stretch.

I think the bear is out of the cage.

Any problems after filling the oil up?

I think I've worked out what the problem is

The breather tube, according to the parts book is quite long and seems to end up in the bottom of the g'box. Mine is only about a centimetre (thats less than half an inch to you older forum members! or so I'm told) don't know why it suddenly snapped but its a split gearbox job to replace.
