Both manual and automatic transmission are discussed here, including the clutch!

Loose Clutch Release Arm

Post by 1st480 » Wed Oct 01, 2008 2:56 pm

Hi all,

can anyone help with what would cause the clutch arm to be loose in all directions and how this can be fixed? Also, should there be any spring mechanism to pull the arm back?

The car is a '92 1.7 NA ES

Thanks

It may well be normal but just feels wrong. I thought i'd put mine back together badly after changing my clutch. Turns out that's just the way it is. Not sure how bad yours is though. If it's releasing the clutch properly then i wouldn't worry.

Wobble = Normal

Don't sweat it...

The release arm just pivots on a metal sphere it's tethered at the
release bearing (where it sits in 2 guides in the bearing carrier) and
at the other end where it is held by the clutch cable.

When it's not under tension it will wobble about a bit. Have someone
depress the clutch (tell it it's inadequate and it's mother never loved it)
while you observe the release arm. You should see it move properly
and at full travel will be non wobbly (mind your fingers!)
