Clutch Cable

Hi all

I know there are posts already around on clutch cable related issues but I have not seen a real guide on how is best to go about it.

My cable has frayed - a lucky spot while I was refilling the washer fluid - and would like to know if it is reasonable to try to replace it myself having never done so on any car before.

A photo guide would obviously be ideal but all help welcomed!

not that difficult but it is very fiddly getting the cable attached to the pedal you are working upside down and when I changed my clutch cable .
attach at the pedal first as you have plenty of room to work on the gearbox end Oh and note how far the old cable was adjusted to before disconnecting and use that as a first seting before fine tuning the adjustment.

Anyone got any recommendations for where to get one from? I understand from Volvo they are pretty pricey!! I can't seem to find anywhere online that stocks them.

I think it's only Volvo who make them, there are no equivilants AFAIK. They're pretty pricey!

OK...

1/ Got my cable (3 parts: centre, L & R) from Car Spares in Brum, less than Ã‚Â£30 if i remember correctly for the whole lot

2/ Really easy to change, the higher you jack the car the less chance you have of bumping you head!!

3/ If you have a friend who is bored then get him/her involved-I found it easier to adjust the handbrake cable with a friend who was willing to sit, pull, release, pull ,release, pull, release...you get the pic lol

O and if you want me to get parts for you if it works ot cheaper then Volvo let me know

EDIT: Noticed your from Brum-so you can get to car spares, its just i get trade discount if your feeling tight!

I blame continued overtime with every morning over the past couple of weeks having to be up at 5.30 am...

Hah. Thanks for the info, esta - when I need to change my handbrake cable, I'll be well clued up!

For now, I've used 480 forum spares - aka glasgowjim...
