Squeeky gear change and stiff 1st gear.

Hey there chaps, just noticed my gear changes becoming 'squeekier' is this a sign of a developing problem? or just normal ware and tare?

Also my first gear is a bit a problem to find, i usually have to drop her down in second then first to get a good fit. I also had this problem with my 440 some time ago so i guess thats another common fault.

Any ideas or info would be welcome!

Things i have done to solve awkward first gears on various cars:

1/ adjusted the clitch cable
2/ replaced clutch cable
3/ replaced clutch when the awkward first became an awkward first and second, then first to third etc until i couldnt engage a gear at all!!

How much would i be looking at to replace the clutch? Uk stiriling! Parts and labour?
