clutch release bearing gone

Post by Derek » Sun Sep 09, 2007 9:42 pm

Can anyone tell me the address or post code for Volvomax. The release bearing in my 91 turbo is starting to go. It's been making funny noises for a few weeks now (sounds like it run dry of grease). i was planning on fixing it myself but i havent got the time and now it starting to get really bad. The thing that really annoys me about it is that i have only owned the car since may and the clutch was replaced 3 weeks before i bught it so why didn't the release bearing get replaced while the gearbox was off already.

Because people won't pay volvo prices to replace the clutch, so they go to quick fit or mister clutch and pay peanuts and get monkeys. For that they usually get just the friction plate replaced.
If your really really lucky the monkey will have rounded out the allen head bolts holding the pressure plate on by using an allen key rather than a socket type and then tightened them up again with molegrips! Thus necessitating you downing tools for the night until you can get replacements. (after getting them undone again)

Thats why.

That cost will be just the labour, its an arse of a job. Whilst they are doing it, you had just as well do it all - as I say, if they didn't replace the release bearing then they probably didn't replace the pressure plate either.....
