Bushings help

Hi all.

I've changed all of the linkage bushes recently, bar one, which I cant seem to remove.

It is recessed in to the gearbox casing and it is a plastic socket for a ball joint which connects to the main linkage.

It is held in by a circlip. I removed the circlip but couldn't get the bush and arm out.

Who has changed this one also?

Thanks,

pol

I have removed that one. It's tricky as it is two parts that split to alow the ball to be put in before fitting. There is a lip where the circlip goes, that means the bush has to be tightly squeezed together to fit. Trying to do that to get it out is near impossible.

I'm not sure what to suggest, other than maybe a bigger hammer?

I had just got my car back together and couldnt bear the thought of breaking something on the gearbox. So didn't want to give it much of a beating.

I thought i could cut the top parts of the nylon bush off and maybe the ball joint would come out... But i'm not so sure...

I have the spare bush ready to go in, so long as I dont make it worse!

So you have done this then richard? It moves around easily in the socket to a point, but seems to get stuck where the lip for the circlip is...

It seems to be where all of the play is coming from on the gear linkage though...

I could melt it out!?

Sounds like a good plan. Heat up the part with the ball while pulling, it will melt through the nylon and pop out. You could then remove the remaining nylon with a drill.

I think it was on a dead gearbox I tried, and the nylon broke before the gearbox, but I like the melting idea more.

It's a bank holiday this weekend.... Probably means i'll break something new! I'll give it another go... Bit of heat and a better lever i think..

Use a wood chisel and carefully chisel the nylon off... I reckon....

Less likely to melt anything you don't want melted if you don't melt anything at all.....

I agree, but it would need to be a small chisel... Very small. Also I fear for the ball part on the end, if you wack it with the chisel it won't be smooth any more.

as a fellow pyro, i would go with the burn option...
if anything melts and sticks it shouldnt be too hard to remove or anything anyway, so clean up isnt too difficult.

Burn it! Burn it! Burn it!

Got it out. Melted the ball joing out using my little gas torch / soldering iron.

Hasn't made a great deal of difference. It is down to metal parts now. There is a ball socket which is pressed into the main selector arm, into which the arm I have just removed fits. Whatever!

It is going on the maybe one day if i have nothing else to fix list.

Exactly boyo! I have some similar pics of my 480's wishbones!

It's good to burn. I like your style with the 2 guns by the way. Proper Rambo like! :kill:
