Droning sound is actually coming from my Auto Box!

Both manual and automatic transmission are discussed here, including the clutch!

Droning sound is actually coming from my Auto Box!

Post by catgroom » Sat Feb 03, 2007 9:40 pm

Sigh,thats what its doing too!

Well, shes on nearly 123000 miles on the original Auto Trans.Should be greatful really!

OK,Im gonna put 2 and 2 together here and see what you all think:-

I noticed a vent on the top of the box.its a black plastic plug pushed onto a vent pipe.I believe this to be the Box's breather vent.

Im wondering if this isnt where the droning isnt coming from.Nahh silly idea, maybe???

If this unit sighs when I shut down the engine,to my mind this means that its pressure decreasing to zero no???If my box is under much pressure when operating then would this cause some kind of relief??

Its not always done this, only since about 115k.

The mission was to get at least 150k from the Auto Trans and 200k from the engine.

One half of that mission shall be achieved

Steve

@Chris How very dare you Sir!LOL!

Well,if summit changes about the car mate,I do wonder why it didnt used to make that noise you know??

Still drives well,I think the box will go soon though as it makes another noise for a short while in second and thumps up and down the gears a little now.

Lubegard is on the way,Like the Valiant Knight of Lube that it is.....standing there with its Lubey sword looking all protective and.......red???!!!!!!

Just keep an eye on the usual things Steve and run it until something goes no point in worrying about things to much. Its been well maintained so you should be good for a lot of miles yet. When i stripped the Collection engine down at 150k there was virtually no wear anywhere i say as long as its maintened properly and not abused it will last as long as you want it.
