Gearbox oil ( manual )

Post by Gapples » Tue Feb 21, 2023 8:22 am

Hi
Sorry for another gearbox oil post but it seems to be a controversial subject.
I've tried looking up Elf oil in threads but it's been superceded by this ELF oil

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm?itemId=324546695856&du=1

Can anyone confirm this is suitable for my 92 1.7 please.

The link is dead, but ELF 75W80 TRANSELF NFX is what you should be looking for. The Renault JB gearbox in the 480 takes 3.4 litres.
75W80 GL4+ oil designed for Renault Jxx gearboxes used to be called TRJ (Renauilt Technical Note 6012A from 2004 specifies them), then NFJ (but NFP could be used as well) and now Elf seems to have joined all GL4+ oils in one: NFX. The specification sheet says they are suitable for Renault Jxx gearboxes.
