Which CEM?

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Which CEM?

Post by fargo » Wed Mar 08, 2006 6:01 pm

My indicators and warning lights started to behave weird recently. After 2-3 minutes of driving they stick, the indicator lights stay on until I switch the column stalk or the warning light off. I guess it might be the CEM, which is about to be replaed, since the buzzer in it has been keeping silent for a while.

The question is, how to identify the CEM version in the car. I will have to get one from a scrapper who is a few hundred kilometers from me, so I can only explain it to him in e-mail or through the phone.

My car is a '92 October built, I think '93 model Turbo.

Also, I have a spare ABS unit from a car with TRACS. As far as I gathered, my car's ABS computer is not TRACS capable. Can I substitute my ABS unit with the one I have?

On the CEM, it is almost certainly a Mk III. YOu can tell this one from the earlier one by the fact that the box is not rectangular, it has an angled corner. Looks like this:

Hope this helps.

Are you sure? I thought only '94-'95 cars had TRACS, mine is a '93 one, actually built in October '92. I've read somewhere that TRACS-equipped cars have 6 brake pipes coming from the ABS unit, mine has only 4 (?) or so.
It would be great to have TRACS, however, even if it's crap in itself. At least in my 850 it's worth nothing. :(

Thanks Rohan, great info. Today afternoon I will take it apart and try to clean it or whack it or whatever, if it won't help I'll swap it for another one.

Springtime, wooo-hooo, I could hardly wait!

Rich mod will be activated finally, TRACS on the horizon, beeping CEM, new tyres, fuel parking heater on the way, plus The Great Rattle Eliminating Space Project starts, so great changes for my Little Crap :hopping:

I bet it's indicatros relay. Change needs soldering.
