Installing daytime running lights

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Installing daytime running lights

Post by 084ovlov » Tue Jan 17, 2006 2:50 pm

I’m trying to install daytime running lights on a german-93 (ch.nr.584159)…

After changing the bulbsocket for the parking lights (probably into three connections) and adding 21/4 Watt lightbulbs in these sockets, it works fine in front.

I haven’t done anything with the rear lights; they do NOT work as daytime running lights.
That’s the problem.

Should I do something with the sockets in the back, or do the thing described in the FAQ with the switch, or is it the relay?

I’m a bit confused since it works in front… (I guess this is a silly one…)

No, it wasn't a standard on all of them.

My german 1990 turbo had it,

my 1991 german didn't have it.

My dad's 1995 original dutch has it.

my dad's old 1989 original dutch didn'd had it.

Differences per building year and per country.

Wish they hadn't bothered. The amount of times I've had to buy replacement bulbs (and only Volvo ones fit properly!) and the times people have come up in the day and said, "you know you've got your lights on?" I'll think of a witty reply one day...

Did I miss the point here (“drls”?) or is it someone that hasn’t read the F.A.Q., under Volvo 480 in this forum?

Hay, what’s the “drls”?

I did just refer to the nice description under F.A,Q. by Xander Tielrooy.

@ 084ovlov- there is no need to apologise! Do you mean you want your rear lights to be on always also? I don't have a clue i'm afraid :( I haven't heard of anyone else doing this. I think if you post exactly which lights you want to be on that would help lots as i think there is some confusion going on here. :)

Hi!

On german cars, there was a lightswitch witch hadn´t rear lights on in DLR mode. You need to rebulid it or get a "swedish" switch.
